5 August 2023. Sacred Cows, slaughter, and silence: The tragedy on Yellowstone’s northern border. This is a very good analysis of the bison “slaughter” from this past winter and the conservation community’s general lack of willingness to call out the Native Americans doing the vast majority of killing. Of course, there were a few people who spoke up and they are quoted in this article.

21 July 2023. Bison “attacks” in Yellowstone and Theodore Roosevelt National Parks. This <4 minute interview with CNN is a great resource on how to avoid these unfortunate and unnecessary events from happening.

I am just seeing this from May but it is an important letter written by a Native American himself, calling out other Natives about what they are doing to the bison and being complicit with the state of Montana’s extermination policy. Good job, JAEDIN MEDICINE ELK!

15 July 2023. This ‘Bearish’ Economy Is One Most States Would Love To Have: OFTEN CAST AS LIABILITIES AND VILLAINS BY POLITICIANS, GRIZZLIES AND WOLVES IN YELLOWSTONE REGION ARE BULLISH ASSETS THAT KEEP DELIVERING DIVIDENDS—AS LONG AS THEY REMAIN ALIVE. This is a very important article!

26 May 2023. Court Finds U.S. Fish And Wildlife Service, Forest Service Violated Law By Allowing Killing Of Yellowstone Ecosystem Grizzlies. This is very good news for grizzly bears, and yet more evidence of the anti-predator USFWS which keeps losing cases when allowing the killing of wolves, bears, and other animals. Maybe they should hire people to do their actual job instead of cow-tailing to politics which they always do.

30 January 2023. BEAR MINIMUM: A Biologist Fought to Remove Grizzlies From the Endangered Species List — Until Montana Republicans Changed His Mind. This quote says it all about how special interest based wildlife management has become, “It’s a miniscule number of people that want to do this,” Servheen said. “They’re a super isolated special interest, and the Legislature is going in and granting these people privileges to do things which are harmful to grizzly bears.”

21 January 2023. Tribal Hunter Accidentally Shot – On the Buffalo Trail. This incident clearly illustrates the state of Montana’s mis-management of this popular species. Instead of treating it like a wild animal, allowing it to roam on federal and state lands, they are hemmed in around the border of Yellowstone. The hunts effectively are canned hunts until the state allows bison more room to roam. All other agencies – and the general public – want this. Come on Montana officials – wake up! January 25: Here is another article on the subject.
